A different kind of Asulkan

My third trip to the Asulkan Cabin was a different one. Without the usual bottomless powder and some awesome stability we took the opportunity to Explore. We did the Jupiter Traverse which includes Caster, Pollux and Leda peaks and ends in the Thorington descent. Thanks to the crew for another awesome mission into Rogers! Oh and I heard from some swiss guy that Laura Flannery slayed Forever Young Couloir! Will miss you Laura, safe travels.

The LOVEism

Check out my brother Jason’s latest shed project…. a fat 5’2′ twin fin surfboard…. I think it looks beautiful and love the Loveism logo he designed.
“I cant rave about it too much yet as I haven’t had good waves on it yet.
But pretty stoked for a first foam board.
5’2” x 21 1/2 x 2 1/2
outline is kinda George Greenough kneeboard x bob simmons
Foil, rails and fins bob simmons inspired (s deck, pinched rails, hull entry, chimed rails)
hense the name is an anagram of sim (mons) and VELO (georges kneeboard)”

Balu Pass and Beyond

Even though Rory didn’t keep to the contracted leaving time (two hours late) haha… yesterday was still and epic tour in Rogers Pass with Keith, Rory and a couple more. We toured straight up Balu Pass and then carried on behind and skied down to the highway. I’ve not been getting out touring too much lately and am not very tour fit, so was wrecked by the end of the day. Here are some photos from the journey. Merry Christmas people.

From Summer to the Asulkan

In the last month I’ve gone from mountain biking and hiking to hiking and skiing. The hiking pics below are from the Hermit hike in Rogers Pass, where a month later we would be skiing knee deep pow at the same elevation. Oh Canada….

Had an amazing last month filled with hiking biking, Salmon Arm Roots and bules, good food, people and weather. The start of summer was a bit rainy but eh last 6-7 weeks have been amazing. So here are some random photos from missions during the last month…

One Last Fling with Winter

A quick edit of our time at Asulkan Cabin. Sorry the video quality is not great but we were concentrating on the skiing!

About three weeks ago I lucked out and got a spot for three days of touring at the Asulkan Cabin in Rogers Pass. We had aspirations of skiing some chutes and gaining some peaks but mother nature had other ideas for us. It snowed the whole time we were there which made avalanche conditions pretty sketchy. We had to stick to the trees on some low angle terrain to make sure we were all safe, at some points this was a little frustrating as there was almost too much snow for some descents. One day the Pass road was closed with bombing going on all around to clear the highway which was a little disconcerting. Although we didn’t get to ski some lines we wanted to we weren’t complaining about getting some more super deep days in for the season!

drive by tourism usa

With not much time to burn as we had some km’s (and time) to kill I took a few snaps of the sites I saw as I drove from Revelstoke B.C to Tahoe and back again via the California coast. Nearly all we shot from the passenger seat.
